The National Restaurant Association (USA) asked almost 1800 professional chefs about their opinion of the trends for 2012. They said about 223 items if it was a hot trend, yesterdays news or a perennial favourite. The results of the survey tell us that healthy food for kids, the use of local products, sustainability and social media are really important in 2012. It’s possible to mix your own drink at Burger King. That’s because the fastfood chain has introduced the Coca-cola Freestyle in its American restaurants. With this machine you can choose from more than 100 different beverages, for example caffeine-free, diet-coke or extra lime.

Do you have to drink champagne at New Years Eve but rather you would have a beer instead? Brewer Bosteels has an alternative “champagne beer” called Deus Brut des Flanders. The brewing process takes place in Belgium and the maturation process in France, the ‘Champenoise method’ is used.

Coca Cola tests honesty of soccer supporters

In November there was a big soccer derby in Lissabon and the tickets were sold out in advance. Coca Cola tested the honesty of the shopping crowd with a wallet that contained a ticket for the opposite team. More than 95% returned the wallet to the cash registry and got a special ticket for the match in reward. They deeds were shown and the whole stadium cheered to these honest people.
Collaboration between bars and Brand beer

In various cities in the Netherlands the cafes that tap Brand beer have joined hands to form the “Brandslang” (Fire Hose). The collaboration gives lots of opportunities for pub crawls and other activities. Venlo and Den Bosch go a bit further and organize a total package with culinary, cultural and quiz elements with the ‘Brandslang’.
