Designers of the French design companies Elium Studio and Duende Studio have collaborated together to create a home vinegar maker. The design is inspired by the biotechnology where vinegar is based on, and its instruments.

In the first weeks of October ( week of the taste) children from Dordrecht (The Netherlands) will attempt to cook a total of 1000 liters of soup. The main idea of this event is to get the children more into contact with healthy, fair, eco friendly and self made food. The event will be held across Dordrecht in association with several schools. The alternative translation of the Dutch saying ‘Dordrecht walks in the soup’ is ‘it goes totally wrong in Dordrecht.’
Baker Paul Bernsten and food historian Lizet Kruyff reintroduced an ancient recipe of the ‘pepernoot’. Kruyff has shared here experiences with the “pepernoten” online and started a revolution together with baker Brensen. After many trail and errors the “pepernoot” from the 18th century is finished. The “pepernoten” are now available at the website of baker Brentsen.
Hurricane Irene has done a lot of damage in the state of New York. Many farmers lost their harvest. To help these farmers and other casualties of the hurricane, over 100 restaurants in New York have donated 10% of their day revenue last Sunday. These revenues were donated to a charity fund that helps casualties from the hurricane Irene.

Housebites, a company based in Londen is making it possible to get meals from restaurant quality home delivered. On the website of Housebites people will enter there zip code and Housebites will show the chefs which are working in the neighborhood. The chefs which are a member of Housebites are either working in restaurants or in education. Before becomming a member of Housebites the skills of the chefs are screened. Gobble in San Francisco is a simular system and Chef Frank Hannon started his Friday Nigth Take Out from his home in Londen.
Johnnie Walker and Porsche Design started a cooperation and created two special ‘packages’ for the Johnnie Walker Blue Label bottles, “The Chiller” and “The Cube”. These packages consist of several Blue Label bottles, a cooler and crystal glasses. These are made of the most exclusive materials like titanium and lether. These packages are available at Harrods and Selfridges.
The Austrian company Nectar and Pulse offers a new kind of ‘travel guide’. When looking for tips and suggestions of a particular city, they choose a personal guide (as they call it a ‘soulmate’) who gives you tips. This ‘soulmate’ is chosen by similar interests and personalities. This service is currently available for Londen, Vienna and Stockholm.
The second Wash & Coffee in the world is opened in Amsterdam. It is an initiative from Persil and Bosch and opened in München before. In a wash & coffee there is the possibillity to wash, study, lunch and use internet.
The problem of finding a babysitter often withholds parents to go to the theater. The Theater Bellevue in Amsterdam came with a solution for this group. Parents can visit a show while a babysitter from Babysitter Central Kriterion looks after the young one(s). The service cost 7 euro per hour and is only for inhabitants of Amsterdam, an extra fee is charged for houses outside of the city ring, at IJburg and in Amsterdam-Noord.
ASDA supermarket chain, known from the British Walmart, started an experiment by selling take-away dishes of local restaurants. These are dishes of the Arabic, Pakistani and Indian kitchen. Last spring, the ASDA started a cooperation with the restaurant chain Zouk, since then the sales are tripled. Next year, this experiment will be extended to London.
