FoodShare program by Starbucks

In March Starbucks announced to donate ready-to-eat meals to food banks from its 7.600 company-operated stores in America through their new FoodShare program. De Verspillingsfabriek of Hutten catering is going strong.

Hutten Catering has its own ‘verspillingsfabriek’ or ‘waste factory’ since last month. Waste streams of food are being converted to new, tasteful products. With the factory Hutten Catering wants to reduce the huge amount of useless wasted food.

Last saturday the 16th of April opened Deliveroo opened a pop-up restaurant in Amsterdam. Deliveroo is the first delivery service that opens a pop-up restaurant in the Netherlands. For a week the delivery service presents the biggest menu of the Netherlands in the Kalverstraat. Amsterdam’s favorite restaurants as The Butcher, Cafe George, Max and Anne & Max serve their dishes under one roof in one of the busiest shopping streets.

No more ‘broiler chicken’ in grill restaurant Gauchos

Restaurant chain Gauchos has banned the ‘plofkip’ out of their twelve locations in the Netherlands. ‘Plofkip’ is the term we use in the Netherlands for a broiler chicken. Since last week you will only get chicken who are having a ‘Better Life quality’ mark. ‘Wakker Dier’ to be translated as ‘Awake Animals’ is a Dutch animal welfare organisation. They started a campaign in order to get as many restaurants as possible ‘broiler chicken free’.
