The BaseCamp Young Hostel in Bonn

A new hostel has opened in Bonn, Germany. ‘The BaseCamp Young Hostel Bonn is located inside a former storage facility, it’s a covered campsite with a hostel feeling. All the ‘rooms’ of the hotel are camping trailers and other retro vehicles. The hostel accommodates 120 beds across 15 caravans, trailers and airstreams. The rates for a night range from €54 up to €76. The hotel is an idea of the German hotelier Michael Schlösser and is in business as from August. The trailers, airstreams and caravans are all classic models that definitely remind many of the holiday experiences of their childhood. Festivals in bungalowparks sold out

All the bungalows at bungalowpark ‘De Eemhof’ are fully booked from 7 to 9 February 2014. Organizer ‘Meubelstukken’ only needed a week to archieve this, giving previous visitors the first chance to book their bungalow.

Party organization Loveland announced its ‘Loveland weekender’ bungalow festival in September. This festival, located at Roompot bungalowpark Weerterbergen in Limburg from 4 to 6 April was sold-out in only 24 hours.

Warning for tourists in New York

A warning with a wink for all tourists who will be visiting NY in the coming period. This hilarious movie should be mandatory for tourists to prevent sidewalk-clogging, by tourist taking pictures while wearing tracksuits. According to New Yorkers tourists need to learn how to behave. And Johnny T, tells about all the jerky things tourist do in NY and tells the basic tenets of not-obnoxious touristing. At the expense of large restaurant chains (although again with a touch of humor) the creators ‘Glove and Boots’ refer to smaller restaurants to eat. He also recommends that out-of-towners stay in their hotels between the hours of 4 and 6pm, when residents are trying to get home. Just another way to put your city in the picture ;-).

Romantic diner for two? The smallest restaurant of the world ‘Solo per Due’ is located in the Italian town Vacone. The restaurant has only one table with two chairs and two red armchairs by a fireplace. Guests don’t have to wait long for the food and the attention of the staff is completely focused on the two guests. The restaurant is located in a building dating from the nineteenth century in a historic town. The location offers a beautiful view across the valley of olive trees. ‘Solo per Due’ offers exclusive Italian dishes for € 250,= per person, drinks excluded.

Recently we published an article about Food Sherpas; local people who take tourist on a local culinary discovery tour. Food tours along local culinary hotspots for tourists are becoming more popular. Like in Washington culinary tours are given by companies. For example DC Metro Food Tours gives tours in 13 different neighborhoods in Washington. The food served during the tour are a reflection of both residents and the history of the area. During the Food Tours architecture, culture, history and food are combined. The website Skift published an interesting article about these food tours.

Watch movies on a smartphone during your flight

The airline Virgin Australia has developed a new app that allows passengers to view movies and programs directly from their smartphone, laptop or tablet during a flight. Before the airplane leaves, passengers can download the app from iTunes or Google Play and get access for 300 hours movies and programs of Virgin Australia. At this moment the app is tested at 37 airplanes, both domestic and international flights.

The Swiss architect Fredy Isela is planning to build a gigantic zeppelin hotel. This zeppelin hotel will be build on four piles of 30 meters high. The hotel should be 236 meters long, six floors and will have 500 suites. The hotel will also have several restaurants, a spa, conference rooms, shops and some luxury apartments. The hotel will be fully sustainable. The project will costs approximately 200 million euro, investors are still being searched.

Trivago gives an overview of ten popular hotels with waterslides all over the world. Ranging from slides with a view of the beach and sea to slides through aquariums with sharks and rays. Steep slides but also slides with many turns. The pictures above is from Artis The Palm hotel, a five-star resort located in Dubai. The 42 acre waterpark ‘Aquaventure’ is known as the best waterpark in the Middle East and Europe. The waterpark has slides where you are surrounded by sharks and rays, but also uphill water roller coasters and slides that catapult you through shark filled lagoons.
