This Veggie Cake may inspire a few belovers of desserts. This dessert is created to extend the unilateral menu of a vegaterien. The center of the cake is filled with ranch dressing, but the surrounding veggies must be eaten to get to the creamy center. Helsinki is preparing for the successful event Restaurant Day on the 19th of November. The city will be filled with pop-up restaurants of non-professional chefs, with very various concepts. Sirén and his friends Antti Tuomola and Timo Santala came up with idea for this one-day pop-up catering event. The news was being spread through Facebook and the media picked it up, which enabled the first event to become a major success in which two hundred chefs served thousands of customers.

London retail space becomes world’s first farm in a shop

The London FARM: shop project in Hackney is converting an empty retail unit into the world’s first farm in a shop. Their mission is to see how much food they can grow in an urban environment, and to educate and inspire the inhabitants. FARM: shop plans to have chicken coops on the roof, fish tanks outside the shopfront, and other live animals inside the shop. By employing a combination of new technologies and traditional methods, they will also grow fruit and vegetables inside the shop. Upstairs, a meeting room will be available to hire, and downstairs a cafe will serve up dishes using all the produce grown there. The whole space will be available to hire for events and parties, and all profits will go back into their farming outreach programme which teaches people how to grow food.

This December, the American producer Arkay will launch a soda with the taste of whiskey. The soda targets consumers that are not allowed to, or do not want to drink alcohol, but nevertheless want to enjoy the taste of whiskey. Arkay developed the recipe in five years, which consists entirely of artificial colorants and flavourings. The drink will also be suitable for Muslims, and it will be fully Halal.

Vulkanspargel; forgotten vegetable

Vulkanspargel is an old salad- and vegetable plant from Germany that got into oblivion. The plant is still grown in the south of Germany under the name “Catalogna puntarelle di galatina”. The taste is comparable to chicory, and the asparagus can be used as the basis of a salad. Moreover the plant has a high vitamin and mineral content in addition to its positive effect on digestive and blood circulatory.

After cupcakes have been a major culinary trend, a new culinary trend has raised in Great Britain; “cinnamon buns”. In Great Brittain cinnamon has already been very popular for a while. Besides artisian specialist shops, a number of chains are implementing this new trend, such as Marks&Spencer. These cinnamon buns are baked with cinnamon-based yeast dough. Thin layers of dough will be lubricated with butter in order to obtain a crunchy texture and a full flavor. Because of a mixture of white sugar and cinnamon, the bun gets a distinct flavor. We think that the Dutch Bolussen do taste greater, did you ever try one?

Smiling oysters can be opened by hand instead of using an oyster knife. Naked lobsters have taken off their coats.In both cases the pascalization makes the preparation (and eating) a lot easier.
