CaliBurger | Pilot of ordering and paying with facial recognition

CaliBurger has partnered with NEC Corporation of America to roll out self-ordering kiosks using NeoFace® facial recognition software. This software is used to identify registered customers and pull up their loyalty accounts and order preferences. The kiosk pilot program is now at CaliBurger’s Pasadena location, where the Quick Serve Restaurant chain showcases new technologies developed by its parent company, the Cali Group. The new facial recognition self-ordering kioks were on display at the NRF 2018 in New York last week.

The Bearista truck will visit different cities and serves Grizzlychoc, BabybearChino or Pandacino, even better you can take a bear-hug selfie with the stars of the show.

FG OKONOMIYAKI BAR | Japanese pancake bar in Rotterdam

Soon FG Okonomiyaki Bar will be opened in the Japanese style Denoism store, at the Katshoek 19 in Rotterdam (Hofbogen). They are going to serve Okonomiyaki, which means free translated ‘baked or grilled as you like it’. Unlike the Dutch pancake, the okonomiyaki isn’t based on milk but on seaweed stock. You can fill the pancake with a choice of toppings such as cod, pork belly, tuna, homemade ketchup and bonito flakes. For 5 euros each, you can take away a mini-ekonomiyaki’s.

Edible cutlery | Sustainable solution for plastic cutlery

On the Facebook page of Futurism Food we spotted a video of an ‘edible spoon’ that is sold in India. You can buy it in a sweet, savoury and neutral taste. We wrote about similar products in 2010 and 2013, but it seems that the edible spoon is going mainstream now. The producer Bakeys is busy with a line of edible cutlery; chopsticks and forks are already created.
Why won’t we start using this edible cutlery outside India as well? As replacement of all the plastic cutlery in the fast food industry? The only problem is that they haven’t created a knife model yet but hey, plastic knives are a drama as well…
