Slow Cabins helps city dwellers recharging their batteries while staying in a stand-alone self-sufficient ‘silence hut’ to disconnect and rediscover the simplicity of unspoiled nature nearby ‘home’ (less than two hours’ drive from cities). With this off the grid concept the company wants to reshape the future of housing and hospitality in line with the latest societal and environmental challenges by:

• developing smaller, better and healthier mobile eco houses that are affordable and last longer.
• choosing qualitative (natural) materials, combined with clean ‘minimal impact’ technologies.
• integrating smart multifunctional designs, offering simple but high performances. lees verder

Trends we spotted | Week 32

10-8-2018

  • Trends in het kort

At hospitalitytrends.eu we spot many national and international trends on a daily basis. We pick the most interesting ones to write about, the smaller trends we use in our weekly column ‘Trends we spotted this week’.

This week, amongst others a link to an video about a watermelon ham, a vegan dish at Duck’s Eatery in New York City and a link to an article about all the National Food Day’s. We don’t celebrate that in the Netherlands and wonder when we will start celebrating these days! But also a link to an article about the new Avo restaurant in London and to an article about Starbucks that launched a 5p cup charge across all British outlets to cut plastic waste. And we’re wondering when we will receive the first ‘Christmas’ dinner offers by mail? Since we have read that Selfridges in London opened their Christmas shop during the last heatwave!

After his successful pop up at Hotel Café Royal in 2016, the famed chef Albert Adrià– who built a gastronomic revolution alongside his brother, Ferran, at the legendary Michelin three-star elBulli – returns to London to launch a permanent site, ‘Cakes and Bubbles’, this November. Adrià, who was voted The World’s Best Pastry Chef by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2015, runs an empire of restaurants which range from the perpetually sold-out avant-garde tapas bar Tickets, to Hoja Santa, a modern Mexican table that was awarded a star in the 2016 Michelin guide, and his lauded latest venture, Enigma. Cakes & Bubbles marks Adrià’s first bricks and mortar establishment outside Spain. Adrià comments “I believe London is the capital of the world, and I’m looking forward to this new challenge. It’s a project that excites me as a pastry chef – I’ve never opened anything specifically related to the sweet world. Our approach and menu will be a cross between the classical and contemporary. I am looking forward to bringing this concept to Hotel Café Royal, London’s only modern grand hotel and the place I feel I belong whilst in the city”.
