Café Van Zanten introduces culinary frikandel at ‘Frikandellenfeest’
The frikandel does not exactly radiate haute cuisine or fine dining. Yet on March 15, Café Van Zanten (in Rotterdam) is going to change this: during the Frikandellenfeest (frikandel party) guests will have the opportunity to taste the frikandel in all its culinary glory. Thus no blob of curry, mayo and some shredded raw onion, but tantalizing taste sensations that will take the deep-fried meat stick to a new level.

Café Van Zanten | Frikandellenfeest
What can be expected? For example, an Asian style frikandel ‘Crispy sushi Le Frique’ with avocado, futomaki, spicy kimchi and spring onion. Or maybe you prefer the frikandel ‘El Mexicano’ with guacamole, crème fraîche, tomato salsa, tortilla, jalapeño, lime and cilantro. In addition to this fine frikandel dining experience, matching entertainment will be provided by none other than Arno Kolenbrander.
Culinary tour
The culinary revaluation of the frikandel does not stand alone. Whereas Café Van Zanten used to be known mainly for its perfectly tapped beer, soccer parties and enormous sunny terrace, these days they are expanding their fame with a real culinary branch. Last December, manager Leo already launched his affordable pub snacks for just ten euros.
Nowadays, even this menu is extended with a culinary upgrade: the Fine Dining three-course menu for only €17.50. Think of a velvety tomato soup with hand-made meatballs as a starter, a main course of Leo’s choice, and for dessert still-frozen ice cream with bourbon vanilla from Madagascar, built from layers of pure Swiss couverture. Also known as -who doesn’t love it- Vienetta ice cream.
Frikandel tasting
During the Frikandellenfeest, catered by Leo, you can enjoy a Fine Dining three-course dinner, which can be ordered all week at your favorite pub on the Binnenrotte. You get a tasting of different culinary versions of the frikandel, while enjoying the musical support of Arno Kolenbrander. After purchasing a ticket, you will be expected at Café Van Zanten from 19:00 to 21:00. After 21:00 there is free admission to the afterparty.
