The owners Diermar Laske and his wife Trea of Brouwerij Gudzekop (brewery) have been making craft beers since 2018. They value quality and stand out with authentic flavours. They incorporate local products into their beers, such as Frisian sugar bread, Frisian rye bread, Frisian gingerbread and this results in, among others, a ‘Opsteker’ – Blonde, a ‘Overseas’ – American Pale Ale, a ‘Opgedirkt’ – Raspberry Weizen, a ‘Voor de Wind’ – session witbier, a ‘Voortvarend’- Milkstout, a ‘Op de Helling’ – double bock and more beers with great Dutch names!

Brouwerij Gudzekop

Gudzekop is the name of a waterway between Goingarijp and Sneek in the region Friesland. The red beacon can be seen from afar and guides ships in the right direction. This beacon appears on all crown caps. The waterline is reflected in their logo. The recipes are developed on a small scale in Goingarijp and then scaled up to a ten hectolitre installation.

Full of passion, they are always coming up with new recipes and are proud when others appreciate their beers. They also seek cooperation with other local entrepreneurs: the butcher for the beautiful dry sausages with beer, the cheese maker for delicious cheeses with beer, the chocolatier with chocolates made from their beer and, of course, the bakers who supply the sugar bread, rye bread, orange cake, etc. Among other things, they have a triple with Frisian sugar bread, an IPA with Frisian rye bread, a quadruple with Frisian gingerbread. These products give the beers an extra layer.

The story behind Brouwerij Gudzekop

Brewery Gudzekop has developed a total concept with a story. The labels are all beautiful works of art, all with a nautical image. They have beer coasters in the shape of their skûtsje’s (Frisian sailing vessel) sword.

The hospitality industry embraces their beer coasters because you can put the bottle and the glass on one coaster (saves an action). Their 1916 skûtsje is in use as a sailing tasting room. While sailing on the beautiful Frisian lakes, owner, skipper and brewer Diermar Laske talks passionately about his beers.

They also won several awards with their beers including Triple Gold for the ‘Rode Boei’ – Red Ale and Double Gold for the ‘Opgedirkt’ – Raspberry Weizen at the World Trophy 2023.

We also wrote about other Frisian beers and Frysk Oranje beer recently.
