Book and Bed hostel allows you to book an overnight stay at a book store! A space that is impossible to leave if you’re in the midst of your book! It’s a cheap dorm with as difference: the bunk beds for their guests are hidden behind library shelves filled with over 1,700 books in Japanese and English. The first hostel opened in 2015 in Tokyo, in the meantime they opened three more Book and Bed hostels in Asakusa, Kyoto and Fukuoka.

The hostel is made in collaboration with designers at Suppose Design Office (Makoto Tanijiri and Ai Yoshida) along with book selections by Shibuya. The location of the Book and Bed hostel at the Ikebukuro area (Tokyo’s north-western area) is sandwiched between teppanyaki and Chinese hot pot restaurants.

The blurb on the website explains: “There are no comfortable mattresses, fluffy pillows nor lightweight and warm down duvets.” Instead guests are invited simply to read themselves to sleep.

The first Book and Bed hostel has room for 30 guests. They have a joint bathroom and a communal room to read. Their guests are coming from Japan and from overseas. It must be heaven for bookworms.
