With the help of IUCN NL, local partners worldwide will purchase one square metre of nature for every litre brewed by the sustainable brewery and ensure its continued protection. This is how Bird Brewery – together with its fans – very concretely contributes to a greener world.

With this new, sustainable initiative by Bird Brewery they are toasting to a greener world
“The power of this idea lies in its simplicity,” says Ralph van Bemmel, co-founder of Bird Brewery. “A litre of beer is directly linked to one square metre of nature conservation. That makes the impact tangible and concrete: for ourselves and for everyone who enjoys our beers.”
The first project will take place in Indonesia, where a special rainforest area near Mount Tompotika will be protected in 2025. This area is the only habitat of the maleo, a rare bird species found nowhere else in the world. Without intervention, the forest and thus the bird’s habitat would disappear due to mining. Thanks to IUCN NL’s Land Acquisition Fund, a nature organisation can purchase parts of the area locally and protect it permanently.
The next step in sustainability
“Over the past few years, we have taken great pride in planting over 145,000 trees,” adds co-founder Rik van den Berg. “But we think action is needed now to preserve existing nature. This new initiative allows us to secure targeted areas, together with strong, local partners.”
Next step at the tasting rooms of House of Bird
Bird Brewery not only brings its sustainable mission to life in the brewery, but takes it a step further in its tasting rooms. At House of Bird Diemerbos and House of Bird Kwintelooijen, the idea translates not only to the beer, but also to the kitchen. For each dish – from pie to main course – 1 m² of nature is also purchased and protected. This way, every guest makes a tangible impact.
