We spot fun, new concepts every day. This week: Don Utrecht, where you can enjoy coffee made with Neapolitan Kimbo beans and tasty Italian panninis, luxury sandwiches, salads and pastas. Daruma Crêpe where they make the Instagrammable ‘Crème Brûlée Crêpe’ and more; they have opened a shop in the Nishimarket in Rotterdam and have pop-ups in Amsterdam and Leiden. BunBun sells croissant buns in the centre of Amsterdam. They make 7 Bun flavours, 3 savoury and 4 sweet, every day.

We wish all these entrepreneurs and their teams lots of fun and good luck with their new restaurant, pop-ups and bakery, more details below!

Don Utrecht | Enjoy Italian coffee, breakfast, lunch or an early dinner

Opened in Utrecht, at Groenendaalstraat 2, Don Utrecht. Near the Jaarbeurs, the Beatrix Theatre and cinema Kinepolis. Their guests can enjoy an Italian breakfast, lunch, drinks and/or an early dinner! Think quick paninis, luxury sandwiches, salads (e.g. Panzanella) and a few pasta dishes (currently polpetta and melanzana). Don Utrecht is run by Morena and Reinier Abbatangelo, the business is named after Reinier who is often called Don by friends. This is because he is a big fan of the Godfather films ;-). They also have a luxury sandwich called ‘The Godfather’, with three kinds of Italian meats, stuffed peppers, balsamic & arugula. Expect real Italian cuisine, for instance they serve authentic Italian coffee made with Neapolitan Kimbo beans. And of course they also have cannoli as a sweet treat! They also do catering and have a nice Italian takeaway menu for Christmas at a reasonable price, which includes Ossobucco as a main course!

Don Utrecht is open 7 days a week from 8.30am to 7pm. Longer opening hours are possible for private occasions.

Daruma Crêpe | Premium Kakegawa Matcha crepes & drinks

Daruma Crêpe has recently relocated to Rotterdam, in the Nishimarket at Meent 7. They bake fresh crêpes, fill them with fresh cream and kakegawa matcha that they bring straight from Shizuoka in Japan. Of course, they also have a variety of matcha lattes! As of October 9th, they also have a pop-up on Hoogstraat 5 in Leiden, at Bui!Tea. You can enjoy classic matcha crêpes, crème brûlée crêpes and forest crêpes, the latter a combination of a matcha crêpe with forest fruits, from Wednesday to Sunday from 12 to 6pm! As of July, they also have a pop-up in Amsterdam, at Bui!Tea on Van Baerlestraat 45hs.

BunBun Amsterdam | They serve croissant buns in the centre of Amsterdam

BunBun opened in Amsterdam in August, at Prinsengracht 16 (adjacent to Noordermarkt). They make 7 types of buns every day: 4 sweet- and 3 savoury buns made from croissant dough. The croissant dough is freshly made, hand-rolled and baked in their own brick oven. People actually queue up for their cinnamon buns! They also sell buns with pistachio, chocolate with raspberries, cheesecake filling and one of their latest flavours is ‘banana, pecans and caramel’. Sounds delicious right? The menu also includes savoury buns such as buns with burrata, pesto and Parma ham. Of course, they also serve delicious coffee with their buns!

It is a concept by Wouter Teunissen and Toon Verplancke. Wouter is the baker of the two, his father was a well-known baker and pastry chef in Arnhem. Toon did hotelschool and is in charge of management. Julien Zaal has joined them and does social media and marketing.
