Hangry Hats from food truck and pop-up to brick-and-mortar

Founders Christoph Welsbach and Angelika Widrich made a great impression in 2023 with their participation in the Dutch food truck festival ‘Rollende Keukens’ and a successful pop-up in De Pijp neighbourhood in Amsterdam. Thanks to the enthusiastic response, they refined their recipes, expanded their team and are now all set to introduce the Netherlands to their new ‘Dumpling Deli’s’.

Austrian roots, worldly flavours

With handmade dumplings from Carinthia, southern Austria, Hangry Hats combines a traditional recipe with popular world flavours. From an Italian Lasagne to a French Ratatouille, Truffle Parmesan or Spinach Feta in the savoury range, to an Apple Pie, Blueberry Cheesecake and Honey Walnut in the sweet recipes. Hangry Hats offers a variety of flavours within one meal, as well as the possibility of endless combinations. With 100% natural ingredients and a one-minute serving promise, these Hats are a healthier, more varied and tastier alternative to standard fast food.

From ‘Sound of Noodles’ and ‘Cheese Hats’ to Hangry Hats

Founder Christoph says: ‘During the food truck festival ‘Rollende Keukens’ (Rolling Kitchens), we initially called our food truck “Sound of Noodles”, but that proved confusing. After a spontaneous name change to ‘Cheese Hats’, we sold 4,000 dumplings within three days. This success led to the launch of our current concept, Hangry Hats, which has been refined since.’

Exactly like fast food, but completely different

From March, Benjamin van der Kloet (ex marketing manager of Innocent Drinks) joined the team as CCO. Together, they decided to keep the name ‘Hats’ to distance themselves from the traditional Asian association with dumplings. Benjamin explains: ‘Our mission is to provide people who need a quick meal with tasty, varied, nutritious and affordable food. Hangry Hats offers a healthier alternative to the usual fast food choices, with a fresh and urban feel.’

Two new delis

Discover Hangry Hats’ Grab&Go concept, where you can get colourful “steamy dumplings with big flavours” in no time. The first urban delis will open in Hoog Catharijne shopping centre on October 10th and in Alexandrium Shopping Centre on October 11th, with attractive offers during the opening months.

These new dumplings look different, but they kind of remind us of the Polish Pierogies.
