September 3rd 2024, MARTAN kicked off the latest edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week with a spectacular show at the Conscious Hotel Westerpark. The two sustainable brands found each other in their similar values earlier this year, resulting in a beautiful partnership. The SS’25 collection with the theme “international waters” made from old hotel linen, shows in collaboration with Conscious Hotels that beautiful things can also be sustainable. Director of Amsterdam Fashion Week, Danie Bles: ‘MARTAN’s show shows that when you join forces with the same core values you come up with a rock-solid concept. This makes the Conscious Hotel Westerpark the perfect partner and location and I am immensely proud to be able to showcase this collaboration at Amsterdam Fashion Week.’

MARTAN X Conscious Hotels

‘The collaboration between MARTAN and Conscious Hotels feels almost inevitable: MARTAN makes circular fashion by upcycling hotel linen and Conscious Hotels offers hospitality at the highest sustainable level. Is there a better match than that? That we now have the opportunity to transform their iconic building in Westerpark into a floating castle for one day is a dream come true!’ said co-founder MARTAN, Diek Pothoven.

Sustainable triangle

Sales & community manager Conscious Group, Daan Sterken: ‘It’s unique how the worlds of hospitality, fashion and lifestyle come together and that we get to be part of it with Conscious Hotels.’

The match between the sustainable duo, MARTAN and Conscious Hotels, was obvious, but there is a third key player: laundry and linen rental company G. van der Kleij & Zn. which manages Conscious Hotels’ linen. The large amount of linen used and the carbon footprint of washing it is normally the most polluting part of a hotel. This laundromat reduces its impact by recycling water and greatly reducing consumption. The dryers then run on the heat left over from after hot washing. Because of their sustainable vision, it was no wonder they were fully behind this collaboration and are also contributing to it. A collection for hotel staff with the reuse of their own linen is therefore a future wish of all parties.

About Conscious Hotels & MARTAN

Conscious Hotels was founded in 2009 by Marco Lemmers as the first and only sustainable hotel chain in the Netherlands. It currently includes four hotels in Amsterdam: Conscious Hotel Museum Square, Conscious Hotel Vondelpark, Conscious Hotel Amsterdam City (The Tire Station) and Conscious Hotel Westerpark. Since June 2023, with the acquisition of Hotel V & The Lobby, not only is the entire hotel collection growing but also its positive impact on the hotel industry.

MARTAN is a circular fashion brand that transforms rejected textiles from the luxury hotel industry into colourful, high-quality clothing collections. The company was founded by Diek Pothoven who develops shows and films in addition to fashion. He has been assisted by co-owners Eugènie Mulier and Douwe de Boer since 2022. Eugènie Mulier co-founded the brand Archivist, which first delved into upcycling hotel linen. Douwe de Boer graduated cum laude from ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten and has been involved with Martan since 2018. MARTAN’s clothing is available both online and in shops worldwide.
