Opening – Restaurant Bisous has opened its doors on the Albert Cuypstraat in Amsterdam! The new bar-restaurant formula is the creation of entrepreneurs Bas Noorman and Lowie Jansen. Bisous, which means ‘kisses’ in French, pays tribute to the sensual Parisian haute couture restaurants. Come home in glamour!

Design | Timeless and modern elements with the main colour, deep lip-red

The seductive character is reflected in all areas of Bisous; from the ‘look and feel’ to the kitchen. In terms of design, for example, warm materials have been chosen with timeless and modern elements and as main colour, deep lip-red. The menu reflects a fusion of the region Burgundy in France with the gastronomy of the Dutch region Zeeland, with high-quality ingredients from the North Sea and Zeeland-Flanders predominating. Restaurant Bisous’ cosmopolitan and seductive appeal, combined with a high-quality restaurant and bar, makes it an ideal setting for an unforgettable restaurant and nightlife experience in Amsterdam.

Restaurant Bisous | Combination of Burgundy and Zeeland

The menu reflects the roots of Lowie, who grew up in his parents’ restaurant, Auberge de Moules in Philippine, Zeeland-Flanders. Like that kitchen, Bisous only uses high-quality, seasonal ingredients and classic cooking techniques. The menu features classic dishes such as steak au poivre concassé, lobster, bouillabaisse, cockles in pastis and sea bass. In terms of desserts, you can enjoy, for example, a festive ‘coupe colonel’ or a ‘dame blanche’. Restaurant Bisous also has an extensive wine list, which ranges from fine house wines to very exclusive ones. The wines are carefully curated by sommelier and co-owner Lowie. Bas and Lowie: “The idea for Bisous came from the lack of a restaurant where you can come several times a week. With us, you can both dine and linger, or join us later in the evening for cocktails at the bar. That is why you will also find a wide selection of bar-friendly appetisers on the menu, such as toast cannibal, oysters, caviar and crudité.”

Interior Couture Design | Source of glamour

Restaurant Bisous is a source of glamour, intimacy and a good dose of sexiness. Jean-Philippe Demeyer’s internationally renowned Belgian design studio JPMeyer&Co has signed for Bisous’ interior. Almost everything was designed and crafted specifically for Bisous, down to the last detail. The main shades are deep lip-red, gold, warm cream and pop art pink. Bisous is a work of art where the inspiration for the design started with three Amsterdam-style windows that were still originally present in the building. The decor in the form of objects and art range from the Flanders hand-woven twist on Mondrian fabric used to cover the walls and ceiling to the large lamps in the shape of red lips on the walls created by Belgian concrete artist Wim Depoorter. The first thing that stands out on the bar are the hand-blown glass lamps in a range of colours. A collection of stair runners were used to upholster the sofas and carpet in the restaurant. ‘We wanted to create a challenging design that transcends time and taste, central to this are allure and customisation. Not haute couture as in fashion but Interior couture”, says Demeyer.

Music at Bisous

Besides gastronomy, Bas and Lowie also have a passion for music. They have been active on the Amsterdam event scene for years with event concepts such as Bad Habits, Fleur, Disko, Hush, Tàbú, Oldschooldeep house & Social Paradise. Music is therefore one of the most important ambiance factors at Bisous. During dinner, this will enhance the atmosphere and every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, live local DJs will play from 22:00 on and keep their tunes bubbling and dancing until late.
