Surinamese family recipes

Specialising in Surinamese cuisine, Lana’s Kitchen restaurant offers a variety of dishes from roti and nasi to saoto soup and sandwiches. The speciality is nasi-rice or noodles with delicious chicken from the oven or homemade roti with chicken curry. “Our roti is entirely homemade and a great hit,” says owner Lana. The restaurant has an artisanal and homely atmosphere, the staff place great emphasis on service and personal attention. “We want our guests to feel welcome and really experience Surinamese hospitality,” adds Lana.

Caribbean flavour explosion

Two young, ambitious entrepreneurs – Aaron Mills and Kawei Gary Yan- have joined forces with restaurant Playa. “We want people to enjoy the flavours we were introduced to as children at home: Caribbean and Asian cuisine. We are proud of the flavour combinations we have created and hope to take our guests on a culinary journey through our background and culture.” said Aaron Mills. The restaurant offers a combination of fish and chicken dishes, including the well-known hit: chicken wings in different variations, such as lemon pepper or with pink-coloured lime spicy mayo.

Chinese specialities from the grill

The successful Wantsam Dim Sum restaurant in the Foodhall has expanded to include Wantsam Roast, which serves roasted Chinese dishes. After the success of dim sum, owner Wilson now wants to bring the atmosphere of southern China to Scheveningen. “Dim sum is fairly well known, but we want to do more. With Wantsam Roast, we serve roasted Chinese products, such as pork belly and roasted red meat. They are not appetisers, but real meals, with plenty of matching vegetables to go with them,” Wilson said.

Summer flavours at BOBO

The summer season is upon us and that means the demand for refreshing drinks is on the rise. They are ready at the newly opened BOBO Bubble Tea. “Bubble tea is the ideal summer drink. It is cold and refreshing, with options like the classic milk tea or fruity green tea. Young people in particular know exactly what to order, but more and more adults are discovering the surprising taste of bubble tea.” The seal on the cup also makes the drink suitable for the beach.

Ready for summer

The Foodhall Scheveningen has been busy renovating its terrace in recent months, so visitors can enjoy the best dishes from 16 different cuisines in an atmospheric setting.
