On Monday 14 March, the very first Freshly Chopped location in the Netherlands will open at the Stationsweg 11 in Leiden. This successful Irish franchise concept already has more than 60 restaurants in Ireland, the UK and on Cyprus, and now the Dutch can enjoy their fresh, healthy and tasty salads and meals as well. Core of the fresh formula: all ingredients are freshly ‘chopped’ under the watchful eye of the guest. As an opening promotion they have a Leiden Garden Salad (with cheese from Leiden) with a bottle of Vitamin Well.

Fresh and healthy meals in biodegradable packaging
At Freshly Chopped, visitors can easily and quickly put together a healthy and fresh meal. The choice consists of salads, wraps, hotpots or choppitos, but also smoothies, juices, acai bowls or hot drinks. Visitors can choose from various menus or put together their own combination. Due to the unique chopping of the ingredients, the salad is not only easy to eat, but you can enjoy all flavors. Fresh, healthy and tasty is the motto, with a minimum of sugars and e-numbers. Naturally, sustainability is important in the Freshly Chopped formula. For example, all packaging is biodegradable.
Freshly Chopped Click & Collect | Easy and fast
Freshly Chopped wants to make healthy eating as easy as possible, also for people on the go. In the ‘Grab & Go’ section, guests choose a fresh salad from the refrigerator and pay at the express checkout. Via ‘Click & Collect’ a dish can be ordered online and picked up as quickly as it is simple.
Irish concept
Freshly Chopped was founded in Dublin by Brian Lee. His intention: make healthy eating easier. “When we opened our first Freshly Chopped location in 2012, we knew we had a great formula that would be loved around the world. We now have locations in multiple countries and are serving millions of fresh, healthy salads. The result is many fans of our concept. We are delighted to partner with Hans Wingender and the Fresh Food Fast Company team to bring Freshly Chopped to the Netherlands with our first store in Leiden. Customers from all over the world want easy, fresh, healthy and delicious food. There’s no better place than Freshly Chopped to meet that demand.”
Next level fast food
Hans Wingender, managing director of the Fresh Food Fast Company, brought Freshly Chopped to the Netherlands. At the beginning of 2022, he acquired the so-called master franchise rights for Europe. Wingender gained years of experience at KFC, among others. He sees Freshly Chopped as the next level in fast food. “It is, so to speak, the healthy branch of fast service and, moreover, socially relevant in many respects. Fresh, healthy and tasty meet the current consumer wishes. They want to know whether a product and the environment are safe, know the origin of products and have quick and easy access to them at any time of the day.” According to Wingender, Leiden is the perfect place to start: “It’s close to the station, a lot of cyclists pass by, 18,000 people work within walking distance and 100,000 people live within a five-minute bike ride with an electric bicycle. We will learn a lot in Leiden when it comes to choosing future locations in the Netherlands.”
It was previously stated in a press release that Freshly Chopped plans to open 120 new outlets across Europe over the next five years after it agreed a new partnership deal with Dutch company Fresh Food Fast Company (FFF) International Holding.
