Oliebollen challenge | Top chefs challenge each other for charity
To draw attention to children who are limited in their childhood, top chefs Mark Minkman and Sidney Schutte and Brewery De Goede & De Stoute have started an oliebollen (dutch pastry: deep fried doughnut balls) challenge. Under the hashtag #oliebollenchallengenl they are calling on chefs to post their most special oliebol on Instagram. A jury chooses the tastiest and most special oliebol, which is for sale to the public on December 31. The proceeds go to the Onky Donky Foundation.

Initiators
The initiators of the action are Mark Minkman of LETS Restaurant in Oosterbeek, two-star chef Sidney Schutte and Brewery De Goede & De Stoute. Mark Minkman: “We believe that December should be a festive month for every child, but that is not self-evident. The Onky Donky Foundation is committed to children who are limited in their childhood, for example due to a problematic family situation, illness or a physical or mental disability. They will have an unforgettable day in the Onky Donky house, located in Ouwehands Zoo in Rhenen. On such a day, they can put their worries aside and be a child.”
The oliebollen challenge
Mark Minkman’s original plan to support the foundation was canceled due to the current corona measures. This is how this new initiative has been brought to life, and now of course very appropriate for this time of the year: oliebollen are a very popular treat during Christmas and New Year in the Netherlands. Mark Minkman: “The challenge was actually supposed to start on December 13, but several enthusiastic chefs have already started and have already posted their oliebol on Instagram. The idea is for a chef to post a photo of his or her most frantic, but also very tasty culinary oliebol on Instagram with the hashtag #oliebollenchallengenl and challenge two other chefs. Of course we hope that the challenge goes like crazy and that we sell a lot of oliebollen for Onky Donky.”
Participate? That is how it works!
- The chef posts a photo of his or her most frenzied, but also very tasty oliebol on Instagram with the hashtag #oliebollenchallengenl.
- Placement takes place on the regular timeline/feed, supplemented with a story if desired.
- The photo must also be emailed to info@oliebollenchallenge.nl.
- Two other non-participating chefs must be challenged and tagged in the post.
- In addition, the initiators and the charity should be tagged: @markminkman @sidney_schutte @degoedeendestoute and @onkydonky.
- If possible, the chef will make his/her creation for the jury on December 22.
- Between December 23 and December 30, the Instagram post must be repeated one more time.
