YouTube has been a source of inspiration for spotting trends the past few  years. Every day, thousands of movies are uploaded with new and interesting content. We too sometimes use videos as a source of inspiration to write about. With this week again a selection of videos which Mike Adam thinks are cool to watch. Amongst them a video with a sneak-peak of the daily routine in the kitchen of the immense Brazilian steakhouse Fogo de Chão, an insight in de process of creating molecular whiskey and a video about why KFC has not yet been able to successfully enter the Israeli market.

In the video above, they show a sneak peak of the daily routine at Brazilian steakhouse Fogo de Chão in New York. They serve more than 3.500 guests a week here. The concept and the way of working were new to me and immediately drew my attention. Especially because they are able to serve small cuts of meat to every guests personally at their table. This way of eating makes sure that you can extent your dinner and eat larger amounts. As a waiter you are not only responsible for serving and cutting the meat at the table but you are also responsible for the preparation of it. This way you constantly switch between being a waiter and being a chef.

For the real whisky fans! How is molecular whiskey made, and how good is it actually? 

The men of Endless West are currently working on the first molecular whisky, called Glyph. After a lot of research they were able to shorten the production time of a batch of whiskey from a regular process of years, back to 24-hours. The biggest problems they currently face are based on the sentiments and the image behind a whiskey brand. Consumers still believe that especially with whiskey the story and the process behind it is very important and needs to be authentic, while in fact the substance is not different than molecule whiskey. Despite the difficulties the owners of Endless West are confident that they will succeed. I find the way they look at the future of our consumption as humans especially interesting. The whiskey market is not the easiest market to approach the way they do. It might be exciting to see in which extend their ideas have a future!

KFC is targeting the Israeli market for the fourth time now, but why?

KFC can be considered as one of most popular fast-food chains in the world. Despite the great success they have in many countries, there also are a few countries in which they can hardly can get a grip on the markets. For example in some countries in Scandinavia and in Israel. Despite the fact that KFC has tried to enter this market three times before, they’re aiming for a 4th time now. On their highest point they had 10 restaurants. Right now they are aiming for 100 restaurants! Interesting to see why chains like McDonald’s and Pizzahut relatively easily succeed in Israel and KFC isn’t able to follow. And why they still attempt to try it again for the fourth time, with 100 restaurants! This video gives a clear answer to my questions.
