Mooie Boules Amsterdam | Has the ambition to get everybody in the Netherlands to play jeu de boules
Mooie Boules (Dutch for ‘Beautiful Boules’) in Amsterdam East is the very first food hall in the Netherlands with a unique mix of the game jeu de boule, drinks, food and dancing. At the end of June Mooie Boules opened its doors, this indoor hall is a hotspot for a group outing with friends, family or colleagues. Besides jeu de boule you are able to enjoy live music, a drink and a bite of one of the six food concepts of Editions kitchens from Deliveroo, which offers six restaurant concepts from two award-winning chefs: Ron Blaauw (a.o. Gastrobar) and Michiel van der Eerde from BAUT. The dishes of the chefs are delivered exclusively to customers of Deliveroo and are available to visitors of the pétanque hall in Amsterdam East. Mooie Boules is open daily from 4 pm and in the weekend from 11 am. Every Friday and Saturday they are open until 3 o’clock and then there will also be a DJ.
Mooie Boules Amsterdam | Jeu de boules, food & entertainment
The time that only old French men played jeu de boules has been over for a long time. More and more young people are discovering the ball sport and regularly meet to play a fanatic game. Mooie Boules contributes to this trend by organizing jeu de boules events in the whole country since 2013. This initiative of four friends started out as a joke, but with the large groups of people who came to their tournaments, they quickly became a serious matter. The men of Mooie Boules landed in 2016 temporarily at the Amsterdam Westergasterrein with their pop-up bar. Now they are ready for a more permanent spot. “It has always been our intention to create a place where you can escape from your daily routine. With the Mooie Boules hall our dream becomes reality. It is an excellent spot to entertain you all day and night with your friends and to make new friends, “said initiator Jesse van der Meulen.
But there is more than jeu de boule in the hall next to the Gooyer mill in Amsterdam East. The mix of games, food and entertainment connects the guests which makes Mooie Boules the perfect place to stay longer. Top chefs Ron Blaauw (Ron’s Gastrobar) and Michiel van der Eerde (BAUT) developed six different menus with an edge of haute cuisine. Fancy a drink? You can do this at the bar, in one of the cozy living room corners or on the typical French village square. On Fridays and Saturdays there is music in the form of DJs, bands and musicians so that after the jue de boules you can take off your feet. The initiators of Mooie Boules open their first permanent location in Amsterdam, but have the ambition to roll out the concept nationwide with local entrepreneurs. Van der Meulen: “That’s how we want to get the whole of the Netherlands playing jeu de boule!”
