Christmas without bulging
We recently received the press release ‘Christmas without bulging’ by the Diabetes Foundation. A study shows that the majority of the Dutch people are less eager to eat healthy in December. The Diabetes Foundation concluded this based on search trends in Google. In January people start Googling on ‘healthy recipes’ and ‘diet’ but in December those search terms are hardly used. According to the Diabetes Foundation, a missed opportunity, because delicious and healthy food at Christmas is possible indeed.
To show you how to cook festive, tasty and light meals, the Diabetes Foundation NL made 6 recipes to download via diabetesfonds.nl/kerst. Hanneke Dessing, director of the Diabetes Foundation,”These recipes are suitable for everyone, with or without diabetes, who wants to enjoy Christmas without being physically knocked out after dinner.”
Just as chefs increasingly need to take people who have to eat gluten free into account, people with diabetes is also a group that grows. Like we already stated in the article ‘Gluten free festival’ in November, we still regularly read in conversations between chefs on Twitter that they have problems with the allergies they’re faced with. Perhaps we can use a ‘famous chef’ in an educational program or festival to show how to make their guest suffering from these allergies or illness, enjoy a dinner at a restaurant. Even if you don’t eat gluten or do suffer from diabetes or another allergy, dining out should be a party! Marjolein van Spronsen
