7132 Hotel |House of Architects in Switzerland
A Swiss design hotel and superb architecture under a single roof and as the latest architect indicates: “The human race may share common roots, but we are a pretty diverse bunch, so do we really have to put up with stereotypes?” Thom Mayne, the latest architect for 22 rooms in this hotel, says an emphatic no. Well, the 7132 Hotel in Vals is the embodied result of offering rooms designed by prize winning architects. With as latest asset the rooms created by Thom Mayne and the other 63 newly designed hotel rooms which are created by other top architects. Truly the house of architects in Switzerland.
House of architects
Sometimes you spot a hotel that you instantly want to visit, the 7132 Hotel is one of them. The hotel is originally designed by the Pritzker Prize–winning architect Peter Zumthor in the mid-1990s and built around a thermal springs. The hotel is a protected monument and has a white exterior and minimal interior, a modern architectural hotel in the Alps. Last couple of years they created 63 more hotel rooms. All of which are designed by other prize winning architects.
Rooms
The rooms by Thom Mayne of Morphosis Architects, with a standalone glass shower in the sleeping area, are wrapped from ceiling to wall to floor in indigenous stone or wood. Next to these rooms, you will be able to sleep in the 23 light-filled rooms lined with panels of Swiss oak designed by the Japanese designer Kengo Kuma. Another 18 rooms are designed by Tadao Ando, the Pritzker Prize-winning architect from Osaka. He created rooms with a sense of Japanese tea houses with wood walls and floor-to-ceiling windows. All the rooms have access to the thermal baths from which the surroundings are designed by the originally architect, Peter Zumthor.
