100% Sustainable JIMMY’s Pale Ale Popcorn Beer
At the Dutch exhibition for the hospitality industry, the Horecava, the innovative JIMMY’s Pale Ale Popcorn Beer has been introduced. The main ingredient of the beer consists of the by-products of the Dutch popcorn producer JIMMY Products in Oud-Beijerland. The high-quality use of these popcorn by-products, combined with the already sustainable brewing methods of Brewery ‘Vet & Lazy’, it guarantees a unique and 100% sustainably brewed beer. Which is an important milestone.

JIMMY’s Pale Ale Popcorn Beer
“Definitely another milestone for our company,” emphasizes Annette Hooijmeijer, CMO of JIMMY Products. “We recently announced our relocation to a new, fully sustainable, company building. All our production lines run on green energy. We practice strict waste separation. Popcorn residues, such as filter waste, are processed into green energy in the biogas industry, which allows us to generate a large part of our own energy. And now, together with the Sustainable Brewing Foundation and Brewery Vet & Lazy, we have developed a very tasty and unique popcorn beer with our by-products. We are very proud of it!”
For the Rotterdam brewery Vet & Lazy, the beer represents a welcome addition to the range, says head brewer Ruben Krommenhoek: “The collaboration between JIMMY Products and our company is a wonderful example of how modern sustainability initiatives can go hand in hand. The production of this innovative beer is an important step for us in creating a more sustainable and flavorful future.”
Introduction of Popcorn Beer in the TrendLAB
The presence of JIMMY Products at the Horecava was marked by participation in the TrendLAB at the exhibition. Inspiring food of the future was the central focus in this pavilion. Annette Hooijmeijer wanted to emphasize the versatility of popcorn: “Of course, everyone knows our cinema popcorn. But popcorn can be processed into food in so many more ways. That’s what we showed at the Horecava.”
That the first ‘limited edition’ of JIMMY’s Popcorn Beer would be launched at Horecava 2024, was something Annette Hooijmeijer could not have dreamed of some time back: “The reactions to the beer at the fair were very positive. The taste is soft, light, and hoppy; it is a modern pale ale and a fine thirst quencher. In short, enough reason to consider a broad market introduction.”
